*my first mullet dress. probably not my last - i just love them. snagged at target for a special anniversary dinner with my man, but i think i'll be wearing it a lot this summer. i liked it so much i wore it the next morning to church too.

*and one of my typical weekday getups. actually, i'm wearing these shorts and a white v-neck as i type.  gap outlet. $12. can't beat it.

*and here's my makeup-less mug, sunburnt nose, sunglasses atop of my head, air-dried probably still wet hair. this is me in the summer. so glamorous - haha.

i kinda wanna cry right now

this morning, in a moment of bravery (or a momentary lapse of judgement due to caffeine-induced giddiness that my husband was finally home!) we decided to start the move from Micah's nursery to his big boy room. i decided to leave the cribs as is for now, plopping his mattress with a fresh sheet into the new crib in his new room. i moved some toys over, his little step stool with his name carved out of blocks that fit like puzzle pieces into the top, his life-sized sock monkey, his wooden trains that spell his name. While i arranged and brainstormed, curtis installed an air conditioner in the window. We let Micah play in there as we worked, explaining to him (for the 20th time) that this was going to be his new big boy room. He seemed to like it well enough. It's cozy and bright - being the only room in our house with carpet. Then came nap time and that's when the freak-out ensued. Crocodile tears and screams like I've seldom heard come out of this laid-back boy since infanthood. We debated letting him cry it out, but like the saps that we are, first Curtis went in to soothe him - rubbed his back as he convulsed and sobbed. Then we gave him a few more minutes before i went in. I picked him up, rocked him and told him he didn't have to be afraid. Then i laid his limp 25 pound body back down just to have the screaming start all over again. A few minutes later he was fast asleep, sprawled out in his new crib, in his new room. I don't know if i'm ready for this. i feel like i should be the one crying here. i've never been good with change.

hey sailor

maybe this will teach curtis not to leave us unattended for too long.

we've thoroughly taken advantage of temps in the 90's with lots of swimming & iced coffees & playing in rooms where window air conditioners blow nonstop.

If you know us and our cheapo ways you know that leaving our air conditioners on during the day is a big deal. It barely puts a dent in the temperature but at least keeps the mugginess to a minimum.

There's nothing quite like sleeping with the cool hum of the window unit as I wrap myself in a down comforter - the whole thing, since I still have one more night of sleeping solo.

what i've been eating

i've done a few what i wore posts because i like looking at what other people wear. it gives me inspiration on new outfits and keeps me looking put together although some days i never even leave the house. so i thought i'd do a little what i've been eating post too, because looking at other people's food photos makes me drool, and inspires me to try new recipes and food combinations. plus, it's fun to photograph my food.

-my go-to breakfast lately. greek yogurt, sometimes with a drizzle of honey, fresh fruit and a little bit of granola.

IMG_8113

-i'm kind of obsessed lately with rye bread toast topped with fresh tomatoes and a pinch of salt and pepper. i think i've eaten at least five tomatoes this week already.

-i don't usually make myself a special lunch - i usually eat a sammy or leftovers from last night's dinner after micah goes down for his afternoon nap. but one day last week, after seeing a few pictures of asparagus topped with a runny egg floating around the internet, i decided i could afford to take a few minutes to treat myself. i simply broiled a small bunch of asparagus for a couple minutes and topped it with a sunny side up egg. don't mind the burnt mini whole wheat bagel. not my best culinary work of art, but it was delicioso!

for dinner one night, after drawing a blank at about 5:55pm (which happens quite frequently) i decided just to roast ever vegetable we had left in the fridge with a side of rice for dinner. sweet potatoes sprinkled with cinnamon and chili powder, and brussel sprouts & broccoli.

-another recent favorite is avacado on toast - a few little cheese slices rounded out this little lunch nicely.

and what food post is complete without a kitchen shot with a little guy hiding?!

15.5 months and counting

He sits on my lap drinking a bottle before a nap
I smell the swirl at the crown of his head
It smells of salty sweat and grass
A striped t-shirt and cargo shorts clad boy repeats words
the newest being bible and baby and eyes and hi and no
I ask for a kiss and instead a headbutt then laughing from both of us
He is such a little guy complete with giggles after belches and dirt under nails
stinky feet and shananigans aimed at the dog
last night we watched him put wooden train tracks together, then take them apart and back together again
than after dinner he walked back and forth between us on the sunporch for an hour
he's transitioning before our eyes. from baby to toddling boy
and it's bound to only be more clear with the arrival of his little brother or sister.
