people, flowers and garbage

IMG_5046

there is a fine balance between blogging the truth and keeping certain precious truths and conversations and situations private.
i am in that void of knowing which is which. this week has been full of ups and downs of which i am not convinced are the makings of a blog post you would like to read.

however, i will share one of this week's "ups"

Last night we got all gussied up and went out to dinner with some fabulous friends. We ate like kings over conversation just as rich (wine and champagne and calamari, tuna carpaccio, roasted quail, osso bucco, hazelnut pesto gnocci, trout, lobster ravioli, lemon cheesecake and something chocoloate) and forgot we were stressed and tired and vulnerable.

We connected, and laughed and shared our plates as we shared stories. And at the end of the night, when the no-doubt hefty check came they picked up the bill, refusing to let us split it. We had watched their adorable daughter months ago and wanted to repay us - unnecessarily so. So we slipped our card back in our wallet and thanked them for their extreme and unexpected generosity.

It's fascinating to me how an undeserved gift can bring such a sense of humility and gratefulness and gratitude.

Saturday was a good night, not because we were treated to an amazing dinner {here} but because it was just the break we needed to remind us that even in the midst of less-than-ideal circumstances, we are lucky.

Happy Sunday!

*we saw this mural on a building walking around some quaint, vintage neighborhood while in Toronto. It was called "People, Flowers & Garbage." I thought it was beautiful.
